In the future, I think I would use surveys to get responses back from my first-grade students on various things such as if they liked an activity we did and what could be improved to make it better. I may also use surveys for more fun things, so I can learn more about my class. Say we wanted to have a movie day and I couldn’t decide on which movie to play for my students. I could create a survey that would have a list of movies on it, give the survey to my students to complete, and then play whichever film had the most votes. Personally, I would probably use a printed out, tangible survey unless my students all had access to computers in class because I wouldn’t want some students to be able to vote and then others not get a chance to voice an opinion if they don’t have access to the survey. When reviewing some of my classmates’ blogs, I noticed that some of us had different opinions about the tools we are using in class, but overall my writing was like other students. In one blo...

Flipped Classroom is a newer teaching strategy that allows for the classroom to become the place where questions are asked, and concepts are furthered instead of taught for the first time. Students would watch videos of their teacher’s lecture online and then come to class the next day and ask questions on material they didn’t understand or needed more clarification on. While I think in a perfect world this would be a good idea to implement this sort of teaching in more school settings, I think it is highly unrealistic. It would be a good idea for teachers to record their lessons and post somewhere online just in case someone is absent, or a student can watch the video while studying and then ask more questions, but it should not be the primary source of gaining the information. Many students either don’t have the time after school or don’t want to find the time after school to watch instructional videos. Many teachers also do not have the time to record those videos. This approach m...

While working with Diigo, I have realized how useful annotating a website is, and I have gained the skill of annotating websites. Diigo allows me to be able to summarize what an article is saying in a quicker and more effective way. In my classroom, I don’t see my students using this tool that often just because the students are so young, but in a high school class I can see the students using Diigo when working on something like a research paper when they are reading many articles and retrieving information from them. This application can be helpful when working with team members because there is the aspect of the tool where you can share your annotations with a group and they can see what you have highlighted, notes you have written, and they can also comment on your posts which are all useful when working with other people. For my own individual professional efforts I can see myself using this application when working on research papers or if I need to read an article, I can highl...

Using my EME twitter account has had its good days and not so great days. Some positives about keeping up with this account is that I have been able to find interesting education articles that I would have never found or read on my personal twitter. These articles have helped me in my other education course. Some cons have been that I will forget to tweet, or I won’t know exactly what to tweet about, so I get behind schedule. It is also kind of awkward to be tweeting to only three followers as well. Benefits of using twitter are being able to communicate with others who may live in a completely different place of the world or finding helpful tweets such as the articles I have previously mentioned. I haven’t learned anything new with this account because I knew a lot about twitter before this course began. Again, the difficulties of twitter are not knowing what to tweet. Twitter can also be very confusing for first time users as well. Before our Web Design assignment, I had never ...
