Flipped Classroom is a newer teaching strategy that allows
for the classroom to become the place where questions are asked, and concepts
are furthered instead of taught for the first time. Students would watch videos
of their teacher’s lecture online and then come to class the next day and ask questions
on material they didn’t understand or needed more clarification on. While I
think in a perfect world this would be a good idea to implement this sort of
teaching in more school settings, I think it is highly unrealistic. It would be
a good idea for teachers to record their lessons and post somewhere online just
in case someone is absent, or a student can watch the video while studying and
then ask more questions, but it should not be the primary source of gaining the
information. Many students either don’t have the time after school or don’t
want to find the time after school to watch instructional videos. Many teachers
also do not have the time to record those videos. This approach may work at
other schools but in many middle and high schools this would not work.
OER is a resource that teachers can use to share educational
resources with fellow educators for free. Resources that are included in OER
are textbooks, tests, course materials, and many more. The link I have provided
is an article about what OER is and how it can benefit teachers and students.
The website is also a place where you can find OER resources. It also gives
more examples of what kind of resources teachers can obtain when using OER.
Further down on the website, there are reasons why educators to chose OER, such
as the fact that it improves student learning while also saving money and a few
other reasons. https://lumenlearning.com/about/whats-oer/
While working on both PowerPoint assignments, I learned a
lot about the software that I didn’t know existed before. I gained the skills
of being able to record a lesson with the PowerPoint, of adding actions onto
pictures and icons to go to a different slide, and how to create a trigger for
animations. While I now have the skill of audio recording a presentation with a
slideshow, I didn’t really care for the assignment because it was kind of
awkward to listen back to it and figure out what kind of tone I should be
using. I also though achieving a High Pass with that assignment was a lot more
difficult than previous assignments so that is why I did not achieve that in my
opinion. I really liked creating the
Assignment 5 and I really think I could do something similar to that again when
I have my own classroom in a few years. In the future, I could improve on my
design skills.
