While working with Diigo, I have realized how useful annotating
a website is, and I have gained the skill of annotating websites. Diigo allows me
to be able to summarize what an article is saying in a quicker and more effective
way. In my classroom, I don’t see my students using this tool that often just because
the students are so young, but in a high school class I can see the students using
Diigo when working on something like a research paper when they are reading
many articles and retrieving information from them. This application can be
helpful when working with team members because there is the aspect of the tool
where you can share your annotations with a group and they can see what you
have highlighted, notes you have written, and they can also comment on your
posts which are all useful when working with other people. For my own
individual professional efforts I can see myself using this application when
working on research papers or if I need to read an article, I can highlight and
write notes on my computer through the application and have all of the articles
in one place instead of printing out
articles and annotating them that way and having to keep track of all of the papers.
In each stage of Bloom’s Taxonomy, the PowerPoint
application can be used.
Remember- In this stage, PowerPoint can be used as a drill
type of learning in which students can create presentations with information
such as definitions and they can watch and study their presentation multiple
times to remember the information.
Understand- In this stage, a teacher can use PowerPoint to
teach a lesson to a class by including pictures and videos to help students
understand the information better. Like our Assignment 4, we picked a topic and
described and explained it which is commonly seen in the classroom.
Apply- In this stage, PowerPoint can be used to show a step
by step instruction of something. This can be used for various lessons and
subjects such as how to multiply or divide.
Analyze- In this stage, PowerPoint can be used as a sort of
test like Jeopardy for students to gain understanding and analyze the information
they have been learning in order to choose the correct answer on the test/game
they are completing.
Evaluate- Students can create a PowerPoint defending their
position on a certain topic and they can present it to a group. This would
allow for the student creating the PowerPoint to become more knowledgeable
about their stance on the topic and for the audience to learn from a viewpoint
that they may have not considered before.
Create- By creating a PowerPoint presentation, students will
be accomplishing the goal of this level. They will also be learning different
skills that are required when using an application such as PowerPoint.
Teachers are very much so expected to be technologically savvy.
Whenever a new and improved technology hits the market and a school can afford
it, the technology replaces whatever tool a teacher has become comfortable and
fluent in using and they must start over and figure out this new technology. As
long as technology is around, this constant cycle will continue.
The magazine and website, Forbes, is always up to date on
technology trends and it would be a good website to use in order to stay
informed on technology that is popular in the classroom.
