Faith 1st Blog EME

Hello readers!
I am currently a freshman at Florida State University (Go 'Noles!). My major is Elementary Education and I hope after graduating that I will be able to teach kindergarten, first, or second grade. My hometown is just north of Jacksonville, Florida but I lived in Wisconsin and Minnesota for eleven years before moving to the "sunshine state". I haven't been anywhere outside of America but I hope one day I will be able to travel more outside of the country because I love traveling. As of now, my favorite place to travel to is New York City because I love the bright lights and skyscrapers. I am very family-orientated. I have four brothers, two sisters, and a dog named Buddy.

The only experience I have with using technology in an educational setting was having a typing class in the fifth grade but other than that, I am not good with technology. When I was in high school, it wasn't very important to have advanced technological skills so I never went out of my way to learn them and I was never taught them. Like every other person my age, I know how to work social medias like Twitter and Instagram, but when it comes to Microsoft and things of that nature, I don't really know what I'm doing. Whenever my friends need help with their computers, they know not to come to me because I will be no help to them and I am usually the one asking for help anyways.

In this class, I hope to learn more skills that will help me with the career I am seeking. Knowing how to make newsletters and advanced PowerPoints will be a crucial aspect of my job if I want to keep my students engaged in their learning. I am actually looking forward to making blog posts because I enjoy writing. I hope to learn and become proficient in using Microsoft Excel. As we continue on in this technological age, technology will become more important in our daily lives so I am looking forward to using these tools.

  1. Hey, that is totally common that people like you are not super fluent in using Microsoft and things like that. However, given your experience in the online world, I am not worried at all (or maybe I can say, I have faith in you!) because most of the softwares are designed to be used (not to trick the users) and the design language is somewhat universal.
I am really glad that you are thinking about career development at freshman year. We will talk more about that. Not only about learning to use a couple of softwares.
